Incorporating any innovation or new way of doing things is kind of like climbing a mountain:

Point A to Point B: Innovation often appears easy in the beginning, because we can still use our familiar “toolbox” (walking, wearing basic hiking boots and shorts, breathing the air in the atmosphere, etc.) to get us from Point A to Point B. And we’re making progress toward the peak of the mountain, so it feels like we’re headed in the right direction!

Trying to get from Point B to Point C, we suddenly find that our old “toolbox” is no longer serving us. We need new tools (ropes, crampons, helmets, ice axes, pulleys, oxygen canisters, etc.) as well as the skills and experience to assess the mountain and know how and when to use those tools. This is the time when the guidance of a Sherpa – someone who knows the ways of the mountain – can be particularly helpful. The Sherpa can’t climb the mountain for you, but he can guide you on the best paths and techniques for success in your climb.

As soon as we reach the mountain top (Point D), the natural tendency is to heave a sigh of relief, lose focus and take our accomplishment for granted…but the danger in doing this is that we can very easily slide back down the mountain (or – worse – fall in a moment of distractedness). Continuing to use the skills and awareness that got us up the mountain enables us to sustain success.

At Satya Rasa Consulting, our job is to guide you through the unfamiliar and often scary processes of successfully and profitably incorporating growth and innovation into your business model and company culture.
